Two-dimensional vortex lattice melting.
We report on a Monte-Carlo study of two-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau superconductors in a magnetic field which finds clear evidence for a firstorder phase transition characterized by broken translational symmetry of the superfluid density. A key aspect of our study is the introduction of a quantity proportional to the Fourier transform of the superfluid density which can be sampled efficiently i...
متن کاملAnisotropic defect-mediated melting of two-dimensional colloidal crystals.
The melting transition of anisotropic two-dimensional (2D) crystals is studied in a model system of superparamagnetic colloids. The anisotropy of the induced dipole-dipole interaction is varied by tilting the external magnetic field off the normal to the particle plane. By analyzing the time-dependent Lindemann parameter as well as translational and orientational order we observe a 2D smecticli...
متن کاملMagnetic properties of the two-dimensional Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice
The spin Green’s function of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice is calculated using Mori’s projection operator technique. At T = 0 the spin excitation spectrum is shown to have gaps at the wave vectors of the classical Néel ordering. This points to the absence of the antiferromagnetic long-range order in the ground state. The calculated spin correlation on the neighb...
متن کاملTexture defect detection using the adaptive two-dimensional lattice filter
In this paper, the eight parameter two-dimensional adaptive lattice filter is used to detect defects in textures corresponding to raw textile fabrics. A novel histogram modification technique is also applied for pre-processing the grey level texture image. Moreover, with the proposed scheme, it is possible to detect defects using the defective image only.
متن کاملSolving a class of nonlinear two-dimensional Volterra integral equations by using two-dimensional triangular orthogonal functions
In this paper, the two-dimensional triangular orthogonal functions (2D-TFs) are applied for solving a class of nonlinear two-dimensional Volterra integral equations. 2D-TFs method transforms these integral equations into a system of linear algebraic equations. The high accuracy of this method is verified through a numerical example and comparison of the results with the other numerical methods.
